At Shongwe, we are passionate about our community and our natural heritage. We believe in making a more beautiful tomorrow. To do this we target our giving at the younger generation coming through. We aim to help them access better opportunities and to develop them into guardians and custodians of our incredible natural heritage.
Shongwe has partnered with Greenline Africa, a community and conservation based non-for-profit based here in Victoria Falls. Greenline works amongst the poor rural communities around Victoria Falls and Livingstone. Their mission is to work with marginalized and vulnerable communities to develop, implement and support sustainable projects focusing on livelihoods, health, education and biodiversity management. One particular project we are passionate about are the new Early Childhood Centres in the villages. The research shows that the first 1000 days of a child’s life can shape the child’s future. We have one chance to get it right! If you’d like to find out more, and see how you can be part of changing a child’s future – click on the link below:
Without our Natural Heritage there is no tourism economy. At Shongwe we believe in tourism that protects and does not exploit. Shongwe has recently partnered with the Ele Collection the brainchild of some brilliant, young, local entrepreneurs. The mission of Ele Collection is to completely eliminate plastic waste in the entire region. How it works is very simple. Ele Collection pays women only collection groups a good living to collect all plastic waste. This plastic waste gets recycled into saleable builders aggregate by a special new factory in Victoria Falls. The factory will be able to recycle the entire plastic waste of Matebeleland North province and Livingstone in Zambia while providing much needed- income streams for women-led households.
Aside from these projects Shongwe supports a number of other charities, for more information in how you can partner with us please ask to speak to the manager:
Mummy’s Angels (support for young mums)
Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching unit
Chinotimba Home for the Destitute
Education for the Disabled
Mental Health Network
Thanks for staying with us and in so doing supporting these incredible initiatives that bring real change to real people and real places.
Finally, can we encourage you to use our Ecodrop reusable bottles. Shongwe is eliminating plastic bottles and encouraging guest to use these safe, environmentally friendly Ecodrop refill points located all around town. For more information, enquire at reception. A percentage of the proceeds from Ecodrop go to providing clean and safe drinking water for schools in rural areas.
